I’m Cheralyn Willcox, an experienced, qualified counsellor based at my private office in Uley Gloucestershire.
I completed my training with Gloucester Counselling Service, gaining the professional qualification that is accredited by the BPC (British Psychoanalytical Council), as a psychodynamic counsellor. I am currently completing an associate year, working towards accreditation with the BACP (British Association for Psychotherapy & Counselling).
Life at times can be a huge challenge, but whatever you are going through, I will help you on the journey to find a positive outcome.
If you are reading this, then you have taken the first step in getting help and support for yourself.
My approach is supportive, collaborative and explorative and I provide a safe and confidential space where you can share your thoughts and feelings with me, at a pace that feels right for you.
This is your journey through life and only you can walk your path. What I can offer is some experience of the terrain and some maps so we can navigate through the difficult parts together. I cannot do it for you, but I can do it alongside you offering support and another mind to think about it with you.
Together we will be able to gain an understanding of how you might be able to think, feel and live differently and not feel alone along the way. I will not judge you, nor tell you what to do. I will however support you respectfully as you find your own way. I will listen to you and reflect with you on what is said, allowing you the space to explore your thoughts and feelings about yourself and others.
I will encourage you to explore situations that are causing you a problem and help you to focus on what exactly is holding you back and causing difficulties. Together, we can find new ways of understanding, and a new way forward to face life’s challenges with confidence.
At times it can feel too difficult to talk to those you are closest to about issues that you are struggling with. These are times where talking to an experienced and impartial counsellor can help you to understand the reasons for the difficulties.
I have experience of talking to people who have come to counselling for a wide variety of reasons. Something difficult may have happened in your life, or you may feel over-whelmed, unhappy or worried, but you are not sure why or how to change things – this is very usual.
Some of the challenges and situations where counselling can help are:
Anxiety - Bereavement – Grief – Depression – Stress - Panic attacks – PTSD - Low self-esteem - Childhood Abuse - Anger management - Relationships (personal and family) - Problems in the work-place - Parenting issues – Bullying – Communication - Addictive behaviour - Compulsive behaviour – Menopause - Sexual problems – Sexuality- Fertility - Dealing with bad news - Dealing with chronic conditions - Adapting to new life stages such as when children grow up and leave home, or at retirement
